PREMIER LEAGUE 30: ICONIC STORIES

PREMIER LEAGUE 30: ICONIC STORIES •

10 moments, 10 iconic stories. To celebrate the 30 year anniversary of the Premier League, sports production company DEAD Films have created a distinct documentary series honouring some of the most iconic stories in English football. Amazon Prime, Sky Sports & BT Sport have picked up the series in the UK, with NBC Sports showing the films in the US. The series also being broadcast by Premier League rights holders all over the globe.

The premise was to launch the 10 films in 10 days in the run up to the anniversary in August 2022 which meant a tight schedule for the DEAD team with over 30 contributors of footballing royalty past and present. The scheduling to the shoots was more frantic than the Christmas fixture list, with the interviews taking DEAD all over the UK and Europe.

Mike Norrish, Director of Digital & Creative, Premier League Productions;
”Dead Films brought a unique artistic vision to this project, creating 10 individual ‘singles’ which still felt like part of a cohesive and compelling ‘album’. They delivered digital and broadcast versions of the 10 stories, which we distributed to Premier League broadcasters in every market. It was their outstanding creative flair which made these films so striking and engaging, but just as impressive was their organisational production skills, which delivered this hugely ambitious project on time and on budget.”

The 10 films (each about 13 minutes in length) provide exclusive interviews with some of the biggest names in football. From a secret underground members bar with Patrick Vieira; to poolside with David Ginola on the French Riviera; to sharing a pint of Shearer’s Stout with Alan himself - the series provides a fresh approach to sports storytelling giving audiences a fresh insight into some of the biggest moments in Premier League history.

Mike Rodgers, Director & Founding Partner;
”On top of the rich interviews and archive we knew we would be getting, we wanted to add another dimension to each film and give them each their own unique identity. This was achieved with a bespoke design execution and a strong cinematic thread to each tale, which relates to the particular story being told and the characters at the helm.”

The films include a dramatic reconstruction of a young Wayne Rooney developing his tenacious instinct on the streets of Liverpool; Animation of Sergio Agüero moving from Buenos Aires to change Manchester City forever; Wes Morgan eating beans on toast as Riyad Mahrez remembers his shock of first joining Leicester City; Recreating the iconic press room from Jose Mourinho’s ‘Special One’ press conference.
